Founding Engineer — Engine
Own the whole engine: the renderer, the UI systems, the game loop, physics, and the typed APIs our agents write games against.
The engine is TypeScript on a custom WebGPU pipeline, and it ships natively to iOS and Android. You own the renderer, the UI systems, the game loop, physics integration, particles and effects. You also own the API surface. The engine's main user is an AI agent, so the types carry the rules and the budgets, and the API has to make a frame-dropping call hard to write.
The role is games-specific. Building an engine for games requires knowing what makes a mechanic satisfying and where players spend their attention. You work directly with the founder, and senior advisors support the deep specialist calls.
- Build the renderer and runtime in TypeScript on our custom WebGPU pipeline, 2D and 3D, shipping natively to iOS and Android.
- Design the agent-facing APIs for particles, boards, effects and game feel.
- Extend the engine's capability set as we target new genres.
- Keep frame rates smooth on low-end Android devices, within strict frame and allocation budgets.
- Take systems from design through to a released title.
- You've built an engine, or a substantial part of one: a renderer, a runtime, or a framework that shipped games.
- You've done real-time work in Unity or a similar engine and know the strengths and limits of the established tools.
- You've shipped games and can talk in detail about their mechanics, feel and retention.
- You're comfortable on the web platform. Engine experience in another stack is fine.
- Strong TypeScript, or deep experience in another language. Comfortable reasoning about GPUs, memory and garbage collection.
- You use AI tools daily in your own work.
- Based in (or willing to relocate to) London. We work in person, five days a week, from our office in Bloomsbury.
- You've shipped a mobile game solo, however small.
- Shader programming (WGSL or GLSL), React Native internals, or mobile performance profiling.
- Physics engine or particle system work in any stack.
- Contributions to open-source engines or graphics libraries.
How we hire
We keep it short, we pay for your time, and you know the bar at every stage.
